Laura Smithburg Byrne is a classically trained harpist who has performed for over 20 years on the concert stage, in major symphony orchestras, in ballet orchestras, Broadway show orchestras, in popular/rock&roll venues, and in the recording studio. She is versatile in popular music and is frequently hired to play at corporate events, private parties,  weddings, receptions, and religious events.

Mrs. Byrne has been appointed as harp instructor at Duke University and at the University of North Carolina -Chapel Hill. She has also taught at the college/University level in Minneapolis Minnesota and Louisville Kentucky while maintaining a very active performance career.

Laura Smithburg Byrne received her Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music where she studied with Alice Chalifoux. She began her teaching career while in graduate school teaching in the preparatory division of the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Mrs. Byrne taught at the College/University level in Minneapolis, Minnesota and in Louisville Kentucky while maintaining a very active performance career. She has performed frequently as an orchestral harpist with noted Ballet companies such as the Joffrey Ballet, in Symphony orchestras such as the Louisville Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, Broadway productions, and as a freelance harpist with such groups as the Moody Blues and Johnny Mathis. She has recorded for many groups and has played on local and national television. As a freelancer, she plays at numerous receptions, parties, weddings, corporate events, and is known for her excellent playing and gracious personality.
